Summary

The paper is devoted to the small hermetic compressors commonly used in household refrigerators and freezers. The study presents the design and the experimental results obtained using a test bench that was built in order to develop and to validate the numerical model for a reciprocating compressor working fluid with R134a. On the experimental units the following methods were used in order to find cooling capacity and power consumption according to ISO 917 ("Testing of refrigerant compressors"): method C-dry system refrigerant calorimeter, for direct measurements and method F-water cooled condenser, for indirect measurements. The temperature and pressure conditions correspond to the Cecomaf and commercial cycles. The agreement between the calculated and experimental values under the same operative conditions has been reasonable. In addition to this corroboration, some illustrative results are shown. The plant can be also used for long live tests and quality control for compressors working with (non) chlorinated/fluorinated refrigerants and hydrocarbons.
