This paper introduces the principle and the characteristics of a typical heat pipe, classifies the existing types according to various aspects, describes the functions of heat pipes, and then surveys its current status and the front edge of development. Based on the current state of the art in China, the paper points out the main problems and the application perspectives of heat pipes in China.
