The effect of boron in the MnFe(P,As) material.

Summary

The influence of the incorporation of boron on the magnetic properties in the giant-magnetocaloric materials Mn0.95Fe1.05(P0.5,As0.5) has been investigated. It has been found that boron acts as an interstitial element in the material, which has the hexagonal Fe2P phase as its prototype. As the boron concentration is increased, the Curie temperature was found to increase and the thermal hysteresis was slightly decreased while preserving the first order magnetic transition. This shows that interstitial elements can be used in these materials to improve the magnetocaloric properties.
