Type of article: Article

Summary

THE EFFECT OF BUOYANCY ON LAMINAR-FLOW HEAT TRANSFER IN THE ENTRANCE REGION BETWEEN HORIZONTAL, PARALLEL PLATES WAS ANALYZED TWO-DIMENSIONALLY FOR BOTH A UNIFORM WALL TEMPERATURE AND A UNIFORM HEAT FLUX. THE EQUATIONS ARE SOLVED USING THE BOUSSINESQ APPROXIMATION FOR: (1) BOTH WALLS HEATED EQUALLY ; (2) THE UPPER WALL HEATED WITH THE LOWER WALL INSULATED ; AND (3) VICE VERSA. THE VELOCITY AND TEMPERATURE PROFILES AT THE INLET WERE ASSUMED TO BE UNIFORM, AND THE ENTERING FLOW TO BE NONROTATIONAL. NUMBERS FOR THE VELOCITY PROFILE, PRESSURE GRADIENT, SHEAR STRESS AT THE WALL, TEMPERATURE PROFILE, AND LOCAL NUSSELT NUMBER, ARE PLOTTED TO SHOWTHE EFFECTS OF BUOYANCY.
