Summary

REPORTS ON STUDIES USING A COMPUTER MODEL OF AIR MOVEMENT IN BUILDINGS WITH DIFFERENT VENTILATION SYSTEMS, THE EFFECT OF AIR INFILTRATION ON VENTILATION FLOWS, ETC. FINDS THAT THIS EFFECT IS CONSIDERABLE AND THAT -FOR MECHANICAL SUPPLY AND EXTRACT VENTILATION -THE NORMAL OVERDESIGN OF EXTRACT FLOW RATES BY 10% IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO ENSURE FLOW DIRECTION IN WALLS, ETC. STATES THAT OVERDESIGN BY AROUND 20% IS NORMALLY REQUIRED TO PREVENT CONDENSATION IN THE WALLS WITH COMPLETE CERTAINTY.
