Summary

Refrigerated rail transport flourished up until the Second World War, but it was not until the end of the 1930s that refrigerated road transport began in the USA, and was subsequently launched in Europe in 1947. Around 70 years later, refrigerated road transport has superseded rail refrigerated transport, and has been rolled out across a huge network.
