The impact of heat pump water heaters on Canada.

Summary

The paper presents results from a detailed assessment of the impact of the US Department of Energy's electric water heater rule on Canadian consumers and society. The assessment involved estimating the comparative performance and economics of a residential electric water heater and two heat pump water heater options under Canadian conditions ; estimating the environmental impacts associated with the various electric water heater options ; and examining far reaching impacts for Canada of the proposed DOE rule and how it would affect future standard development. The performance of the residential electric water heating options was determined using a commercially available water heating simulation program.
