Summary

NOTES THAT IN WEST GERMANY CURRENT GUIDELINES STIPULATE THAT THE USE OF RECIRCULATED AIR IS NOT PERMISSIBLE IN HOSPITAL AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATING INSTALLATIONS. HOWEVER, THE INVESTMENT AND RUNNING COST IS RELATIVELY HIGH, AND INTEREST IS GROWING IN THE FEASIBILITY OF USING RETURN AIR. REPORTS INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE SAFETY OF USING RETURN AIR TO DETERMINE QUANTITATIVELY AND QUALITATIVELY THE MICROBIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATION OF HOSPITAL EXHAUST AIR AND ROOM AIR AND TO WHAT EXTENT EXHAUST AIR COULD BE USED IN RETURN AIR. CONCLUDES THAT THE USE OF EXHAUST AIR IN RETURN AIR CANNOT BE TOTALLY RULED OUT SO LONG AS IDENTICAL FILTRATION REQUIREMENTS ARE OBSERVED AS FOR OUTSIDE AIR. (INT. BUILD. SERV.
