Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES A METHODOLOGY FOR CORRELATING THE OVERALL THERMAL TRANSFER VALUE (OTTV) AND THE DEGREE-DAYS IN THE ESTIMATION OF THE COOLING ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS. AN ENERGY ESTIMATING EQUATION WAS FORMULATED AS A FUNCTION OF THE OTTV, THE ANNUAL DEGREE-DAYS, THE CHILLER PART-LOAD EFFICIENCY, THE LOAD FACTOR AND THE DIVERSITY OF USAGE. IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT THE SIMPLIFIED EQUATION PREDICTS REASONABLY WELL THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION. MOREOVER, BY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE RATIO OF THE INTERNAL HEAT GAINS TO THOSE ACROSS THE BUILDING ENVELOPE, A BETTER APPRECIATION OF THE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO ENERGY USE IS PROVIDED.
