Summary

Thanks to its numerous applications in the food, health, energy fields and its use in many industrial processes, refrigeration plays a key role in social and economic development, these being the cornerstones of sustainable development. Reduction of the impact of refrigeration on the environment, the third component, involves two aspects: the refrigeration sector's contribution to reversal of stratospheric ozone depletion, an outcome that will hopefully be achieved by 2050; and mitigation of the impact of refrigeration on global warming.
