Summary

This document was developed by the "Ventilation" working party of the OQAI. It presents the status of ventilation in French husing. The oldest housing, not concerned by regulatory requirements establishing a principle of permanent and general ventilation, still makes up half of French housing. More recent homes show less dipersion in air-flow rates thanks to mechanical systems, but the latter still have flaws that limit their reliability. The behaviour of occupants appears to be a determining factor in the ventilation of homes, because of spontaneous strategies consisting in opening doors and windows, even during heating periods. Extract from the table of contents: general statistics on housing; types of ventilation systems; flow from diffusers; air inlets and outlets; nocturnal air renewal in bedrooms based on CO2 measurements; window openings.
