THE USE OF SOLAR PONDS FOR AIR CONDITIONING.

Author(s) : HAWLADER M. N. A.

Summary

THE AUTHOR DEVELOPED A MATHEMATICAL MODEL IN ORDER TO PREDICT THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POND UNDER DIFFERENT OPERATING CONDITIONS. THE PROGRAM WAS APPLIED WITH SINGAPORE HOURLY METEOROLOGICAL DATA, IN ORDER TO FIND THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS ON THE TEMPERATURE OF THE STORAGE ZONE. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE POND IS HEAVILY DEPENDENT UPON EXTINCTION COEFFICIENT, DEPTH OF THE SURFACE MIXED LAYER AND THE GROUND LOSS. WITH REALISTIC ASSUMPTIONS, THE POND ATTAINS TEMPERATURES SUITABLE FOR AIR CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION CYCLE.
