Summary

DENSITY, VISCOSITY, SOLUBILITY, VAPOUR PRESSURE, SPECIFIC HEAT AND HEAT OF MIXING OF THE WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE-LITHIUM THIOCYANATE SYSTEM (1 MOLE LITHIUM BROMIDE/1 MOLE LITHIUM THIOCYANATE) WERE MEASURED IN ORDER TO EXAMINE WHETHER THIS SYSTEM WAS SUITED TO SOLAR POWERED SINGLE AND TWO STAGE ABSORPTION REFRIGERATING MACHINES. BASED ON THE OBSERVED DATA FOR VAPOUR PRESSURE AND SPECIFIC HEAT, THE EMPIRICAL FORMULAE WERE CORRELATED. AN ENTHALPY-CONCENTRATION CHART WAS DRAWN. THE COP (COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE) OF THESE SINGLE AND TWO STAGE ABSORPTION REFRIGERATING MACHINES WERE CALCULATED WITH THE USE OF THIS CHART. THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE-LITHIUM THIOCYANATE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM WERE COMPARED WITH THAT OF THE WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE SYSTEM AND WITH THOSE OF OTHER THREE COMPONENT REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS USING WATER AS THE REFRIGERANT.
