Thermal comfort for free-running buildings.

Summary

Conventional comfort theory has criteria which are more appropriate to controlled buildings than for free-running, non-air conditioned buildings. These criteria fail to account for the adaptive behaviour of the occupants to improve thermal conditions actually experienced. Briefly summarises the results of comfort monitoring surveys during 1993 and 1994, which show a considerable amount of adaptation by the subjects in regard to their person and the immediate surroundings during the surveys. Proposes an outline for an expert system to assess thermal satisfaction.
