Summary

Thermal conductivity of this garnet single crystal has been measured between 2 and 20 K with various magnetic fields between 0 and 5 T. The authors have found a large magnetic-field dependence of the thermal conductivity; thermal conductivity decreases with the magnetic field from 0 to 1 T and then increases slightly above 1.5 T. The maximum reduction in thermal conductivity is found at 3.5 K and 1.5 T. The value is about 70 times smaller than that at 3.5 K and 0 T. The experimental result shows that the single crystal has the thermal switch function controlled by the magnetic field between 0 and 1.5 T in the temperature range between 2 and 10 K.
