Summary

THE PRIMARY ENERGY FOR THIS FULL-SCALE EXPERIMENT INSTALLATION COMES FROM OIL THROUGH A DIESEL-DRIVEN HEAT PUMP OR THROUGH AN OIL-FIRED HOT WATER BOILER. STORAGE AND PRODUCTION CAPACITY IS 30,000 KWH. THE EQUIPMENT CONSISTS OF A DIESEL-DRIVEN HEAT PUMP WITH A RATED OUTPUT OF APPROXIMATELY 40 KW, 15 ENERGY STORAGE MODULES, A CONDENSER/EVAPORATOR AND COILS BURIED IN THE GROUND FOR HEAT STORAGE AND RECOVERY. THE DESIGN OUTPUT POWER IS 60 KW. AS, HOWEVER, THE TOTAL THEORETICAL HEAT POWER DEMAND OF THE BUILDING DURING THE COLDEST DAYS IN THE WINTER IS ABOUT 100 KW, IT WILL BE NECESSARY FOR THE DIESEL-DRIVEN HEAT PUMP OR THE EXISTING HOT WATER BOILER TO PROVIDE MAKE-UP HEAT.
