Summary

THE CHEMICAL HEAT PUMP (CHP) HAS RECEIVED MUCH ATTENTION AS ONE OF THE MOST PROMISING ENERGY CONSERVATION DEVICES FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE IT NOT ONLY OPERATES AS A HEAT PUMP, BUT ALSO STORES HEAT. A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF A CHP USING SALT HYDRATES AS ALSO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN THIS DOMAIN. AN EQUILIBRIUM DIAGRAM DEPICTS THE RELATED CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES AND THEIR PHYSICAL PROPERTIES. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TEPIDUS SYSTEM IN SWEDEN CAN BE CONSIDERED A CONCRETE CHP SYSTEM.
