Summary

A combined organic Rankine cycle and vapor compression refrigeration cycle (ORC-VCR) system using the same working fluid has been studied in this paper. For the ORC-VCR system, the ORC part and VCR part was fixed on one shaft, and they turn around at the same angular-velocity speed. Six kinds of common used working fluids, R410A, R134a, R290, R123, R245fa and R227ea were selected. System performance was evaluated through computational modeling over different operating conditions. The calculated results reveal that, the cooling capacity and cooling COP are significantly influenced by boiling temperature and evaporating temperature; among six selected working fluids, R410A produces the maximum power work output under the same working condition; for cooling capacity and cooling COP, R123 presents the most excellent system performance.
