Trends in commercialization of superconductors.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The American Superconductor Corporation routinely transforms BSCCO ceramics into 100-m long wires and ribbon-like tapes which Pirelli Cable Corp aims to use in high-temperature superconducting cables for underground transmission. Reliance Electric Company is developing high-temperature superconducting motors. But, in fact, superconductor makers need to refine their craft further before wires of moderate length can be practically realised with unbroken superconductive paths. J.V.
