Turbulent flow in arrays of interrupted plates: application to heat exchangers.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The article reports the results of a numerical study of statistically steady, spatially periodic, fully-developed turbulent flows in interrupted-surface passages similar to those encountered in compact heat exchangers. Numerical predictions of the module friction factor and intramodular wall static pressure distributions were compared with available experimental data. Qualitatively, the results compared well, that is, the numerical and experimental curves presented the same general trend. In quantitative terms, however, good agreement was obtained only for the lower range of Reynolds investigated and for the duct with the thinnest plates.
