Summary

TURBULENT HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER ARE SHOWN TO BE CONNECTED INSEPARABLY WITH TURBULENT MOMENTUM TRANSFER, WITH ADDITIONAL COMPLICATIONS DUE TO FLUCTUATIONS OF THE TEMPERATURE AND CONCENTRATION. THE TURBULENT VELOCITY FLUCTUATIONS ARE THE SIMPLEST TO MEASURE RELIABLY, AND HENCE MANY ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO DEVELOP ANALOGIES BETWEEN MOMENTUM, HEAT AND MASS TRANSPORT IN TURBULENT FLOWS, SOME OF WHICH ARE DISCUSSED HEREIN. MORE COMPLEX APPROACHES ARE ALSO INTRODUCED AND ILLUSTRATED FOR TURBULENT HEAT TRANSFER IN PIPE FLOWS.
