Summary

The initial period of operation of air-conditioning and other technical systems is characterized by the frequent occurrence of malfunctions, failures or improper perforamance. This dispersion of malfunctions is in line with the inverse Gaussian distribution, which characterizes the life cycle of almost all complex technical systems. Quick and smooth overcome of initial problems, or so called "Childhood diseases", is particularly important for satisfaction of users and investors, as well as for building and maintaining contractor’s reputation. The reasons behind the "childhood diseases" of air conditioning systems should be sought from the very beginning of the project implementation, starting with the designers over the contractor and finishing with the end users and maintenance personnel of the same. This paper is result of the initial problems’ analysis in the air conditioning systems in several buildings with areas of Sarajevo and the experiences of the author.
