Summary

Climatically design means the adaptation of building with the climate of the location of building or in the other word the compatibility of the layout of building with the climate of that region. In the architecture of the past there was the same compatibility with climate as well and actually each region has the climatic design according the climate. Unfortunately after improving the technology and new inventions in mechanical utilities, designers are depending on the systems of heating and cooling increasingly and they tries to create comfort situation for residence of building only in this way. Then we try to create comfort situation in buildings only with modern technology and high costs and high air pollution. The strategies used in vernacular architecture to respond to climate often define the total framework which underlies architecture. Vernacular architecture in hot and humid regions of Iran has strong bonds with local climate. Shenashil, Taremi and Wind catcher are the features that have developed according to climatic considerations. The key objective of this paper is to scrutinize the role of wind in development of vernacular architecture of hot and humid region of Iran. For this purpose, we first study the climatic character of the region and will consider the influence of different climatic elements on the vernacular architecture with a focus on humidity and air currents. Then, natural ventilation and the architectural elements involving it will be discussed. In the present study, city of Busher in south of Iran is selected as case study.
