Variable-speed hermetic compressor in a household refrigerator.

Summary

By improving the insulation and the efficiency of the compressor, the energy consumption was reduced significantly in the past. Energy savings can be obtained by switching the control strategy from on/off cycling to an almost continuously running mode. By reducing the speed of the compressor the running time of the compressor is extended. An off-the-shelf hermetically sealed compressor was modified in order to use it with a frequency converter in a household refrigerator. At conditions near continuously running mode of the compressor, the energy saving was about 20%.
