Summary

The emergence of the first commercial chiller units based on water as refrigerant actualizes the ongoing discussion on the refrigerant for the future – all aspects included. The paper describes the layout and design of a water vapor-based chiller unit including direct contact heat exchangers and an axial compressor. Field test results for the first two years is presented for the fully automated chiller unit including annual variations and capacity adjustments.
