What future do rotary compressors have in air conditioning?

Compresseurs et climatisation : quel avenir pour les rotatifs ?

Type of article: Article

Summary

The worldwide demand for room air conditioners is estimated at 23 million units per year. The output of compressors made for them is much higher. Hermetic reciprocating and rotary compressors are the most commonly used, and have made a spectacular breakthrough, especially in East Asia. In Japan Matsushita is the largest manufacturer in the world of rotary compressors, followed by Sanyo. In the United States, annual output of rotary compressors is higher than 6 million. In Europe, Unité Hermétique, a subsidiary of Tecumseh, is the only manufacturer of rotary compressors and, unlike the Japanese, does not make air conditioners. As for Southeast Asia, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, the number of manufacturers is on the rise. China is emerging as the world's latest challenger in rotary compressors and offers a promising market. Globally, rotary compressors should, thanks to their advantages, see sustained development and gradually replace reciprocating compressors. J.L.
