EPA finalizes R22 phaseout plan
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced a final phase down schedule regarding production and importation of HCFC-22 refrigerant.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced in October 2014 a final phase down schedule regarding production and importation of HCFC-22 refrigerant.
As of 1 January 2015, the order calls for an immediate drop from 51mn pounds (23,200 tonnes) allowed in 2014 to 22mn pounds (10,000 tonnes) in 2015.
After that, 18mn pounds (8,200 tonnes) of new and imported R-22 will be allowed in 2016, 13mn (5,900 tonnes) pounds in 2017, 9mn pounds (4,100 tonnes) in 2018, and 4mn pounds (1,800 tonnes) in 2019.
No new or imported R-22 will be allowed as of 1 January 2020.
