In 2012, the first HC-290 split air conditioners (AC) to reach the Indian market were launched by Godrej & Boyce. Co. Ltd. Since then, a total of 60,000 such AC systems have been sold and installed.
The company operates a quality database based on feedback history. According to this database, only a small number of complaints (less than 20) arose due to insufficient cooling. Electrical faults occurred in fewer than 50 units. Only around 50 compressors failed, but the company claims that this could be due to mishandling of packaging. A similar number of cases showed harmless dents and other external damage.
However, the most prominent fault was leakage, which occurred in less than 300 units. This corresponds to an annual leakage rate of less than 0.3%, much lower than the 10-15% rates for Article 5 countries.
