The US frozen food production industry is moderately concentrated, with the top four players - ConAgra, H.J. Heinz Company, Nestle, The Schwan Food Company - estimated to account for 45.7% of industry revenue in 2013.
Although the top four firms control a significant proportion of revenue, only about 11.7% of firms employ more than 500 workers. In comparison, about 45.5% of enterprises employ fewer than 20 workers, but they control only a small proportion of revenue.
This industry includes 523 businesses and employs 90,464 people with firms that produce frozen food products, such as frozen fruits, vegetables and juices; frozen entrees and side dishes (excluding seafood); frozen whipped toppings; and frozen waffles, pancakes and French toast. These products are then distributed to outlets such as grocery wholesalers, retail food stores and the hospitality industry.
