ShareInternational standardisation: new standard on display cabinets
A new version of the ISO 23953 standard on refrigerated display cabinets has been published.
A new ISO (International Organization for Standardisation) standard relating to refrigerated cabinets was published in November 2023. It consists of two parts:
- ISO 23953-1:2023: Refrigerated display cabinets — Part 1: Vocabulary
- ISO 23953-2:2023: Refrigerated display cabinets — Part 2: Classification, requirements and test conditions
The previous version of the standard was published in 2015.
Part 2 (1) specifies performance requirements of refrigerated display cabinets used for the sale and display of foodstuffs and the construction characteristics impacting performance. It specifies the test conditions and methods for checking that the requirements are satisfied, as well as the classification of the cabinets, their marking and the list of their characteristics to be declared by the manufacturer. The scope has been updated to ensure that the standard is not applicable to commercial beverage coolers and ice cream freezers, as these types of refrigerated cabinets are covered in ISO 22044 and ISO 22043 respectively.
