J&E Hall International Gold Medal awarded to Pr. Judith Evans for her exceptional contribution to energy and carbon reduction in the food cold chain
Professor Judith Evans, UK delegate to IIR and president of IIR section C, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious J&E Hall International Gold Medal.
Every year, the J&E Hall International Gold Medal recognises the most noteworthy practical contribution to innovation in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technology.
Professor Judith Evans, currently a professor at London South Bank University and Director of RD&T (Refrigeration Developments and Testing) has been awarded the J&E Hall International Gold Medal for her exceptional contribution to energy and carbon reduction by optimising refrigeration performance throughout the food cold chain.
Combining academic excellence with practical application, her work addresses real-world challenges in energy use, carbon reduction, food safety, and food quality. A major focus of her career has been the optimisation of refrigeration systems across food processing, cold storage, transport, retail, and consumer handling, in both developed and developing countries.
Pr. Evans contributes extensively to international and national standards, the development of guidance and road maps, and the delivery of collaborative projects. As president of IIR Section C - Biology and food technology, she has participated in several High-Level Policy Dialogues on Sustainable Cold Chains and has recently shared her technical expertise as part of a capacity building programme delivered to stakeholders in Jordan. Pr. Evans has authored several publications and is currently coordinating the upcoming 5th edition of IIR Guide for Recommendations for Chilled Storage of Perishable Produce.
On behalf of the IIR, congratulations to Professor Judith Evans!
