Member news: Daikin equips the cooling system of Norway’s largest data centre
Daikin enhances the energy efficiency of Norway’s largest data centre with a full range of cooling equipment.
The Norwegian company Green Mountain recently turned to Daikin to equip OSL-Hamar, the largest data centre in the country.
Located on a nearly 140,000-square-metre site, the installation consists of three buildings, each with a capacity of 30 MW. Two additional buildings are expected to be constructed on the site soon.
Due to Norway’s climate, with an average temperature of 5.8°C and a maximum summer temperature of 16.8°C, natural cooling can be utilised in this data centre, improving its energy efficiency.
Daikin provided Green Mountain with the necessary cooling equipment, including 71 free-cooling chillers, 330 fan array units, and 8 AI-based control systems.
The energy efficiency of data centres is often measured using the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) metric, which is calculated by dividing the total energy consumption of the data centre by the energy consumption of the IT equipment. The Uptime Institute reported that the average PUE in 2019 was 1.67.
The equipment supplied by Daikin is expected to help the OSL-Hamar data centre achieve one of Green Mountain’s goals, – a maximum PUE of 1.2.
