Midea focuses on innovation for sustainable air conditioning

Midea has been recognised in Nature for its major technological advancements in air conditioning systems, aimed at reducing their environmental impact.

Midea was recently highlighted in the scientific journal Nature for its innovations focused on reducing the climate impact of air conditioning systems. The company has concentrated its research efforts on improving energy efficiency, as the sector is responsible for nearly 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

One of Midea’s key breakthroughs involves the use of cutting-edge materials for its heat exchangers. The research team developed an ultra-thin graphene-based coating for the fins of the exchangers, enhancing thermal conductivity and increasing resistance to corrosion. This innovation extends the lifespan of air conditioning systems while improving their energy efficiency, a crucial factor in reducing energy consumption.

Additionally, to reduce CO2 emissions, Midea has replaced the R410A refrigerant with propane (R290).
