NASRC launches R-TRADE to address U.S. refrigeration technician shortage
With support from major companies, the NASRC’s R-TRADE program aims to train over 14,000 technicians in sustainable refrigeration.
The North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council (NASRC) has launched R-TRADE, a workforce development initiative to recruit, train, and retain refrigeration technicians across the U.S. This program, backed by industry leaders such as Albertsons, Kroger, and Walmart, is intended to address a critical shortage in skilled technicians by promoting the profession, providing advanced training, and establishing best practices for retention.
Demand for CO2-based refrigeration systems is rising as companies transition away from HFCs to meet environmental goals. With 80,000 technician positions currently unfilled, R-TRADE addresses an immediate industry gap while aligning with broader climate objectives.
