About the NoteMinimisation of charge in future refrigeration equipment remains an important target in refrigeration technology development. Nevertheless, minimisation of charge cannot be achieved at the expense of unit efficiency since this would imply higher electricity consumption leading to higher indirect CO2 emissions.
Additionally, regulations impose maximum charge values depending on the refrigerant and on the application. Therefore, minimisation of charge becomes one of the most important requirements for future refrigeration equipment.
This Informatory Note was prepared by José Corberán, President of the IIR Working Party on Refrigerant Charge Reduction in Refrigerating Systems.
IIR Informatory NotesThe IIR publishes Informatory Notes designed to meet the needs of decision-makers worldwide, on a regular basis. These notes summarize knowledge in key refrigeration-technology and refrigeration-application domains. Each note puts forward future priority developmental axes and provides IIR recommendations in this context.
