The Gambia and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will implement a demonstration project to reduce greenhouse gases and ozone-depleting substances in the country's refrigeration and air-conditioning sector.

Approved by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat with a grant of USD 495,000 and with co-financing from various partners totalling USD 2.4 million, the project aims to facilitate the adoption of new, climate-friendly and energy-saving technologies through policy measures, technology transfer and awareness-raising-related activities.

The Government of the Gambia, the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) and UNIDO will contribute to the co-financing of the project, which will be implemented together with two private sector partners: the Centro Studi Galileo and Shecco.

Over the course of the next three years, the Government of the Gambia and UNIDO will rely on the expertise of the National Environment Agency of the Gambia, and will take into account the lessons learnt during the implementation of Montreal Protocol projects in the country, as well as experience and expertise of the project partners.
