The IIR is seeking a talented and impact-driven Data Scientist to lead the design, analysis, and visualisation of data-driven insights across the refrigeration sector. This role will play a critical part in supporting strategic initiatives, such as the Global Refrigeration Outlook, global market mapping, policy impact assessments, and sustainability reporting.

The successful candidate will work closely with scientific experts, technical commissions, and international stakeholders to turn complex datasets into actionable intelligence that drives innovation and decision-making across the global refrigeration landscape.

 

Job description

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Data Strategy & Infrastructure
  • Design and maintain scalable databases and workflows to support refrigeration research and foresight.
  • Source, clean, and integrate data from diverse channels (scientific, industry, regulatory, geospatial, etc.).
  • Develop frameworks for monitoring trends in refrigerant use, cold chain expansion, emissions, and energy consumption.
Advanced Analytics & Modeling
  • Apply statistical modeling, machine learning, and forecasting techniques to identify key trends and future scenarios.
  • Develop data-driven insights for flagship projects like the IIR Refrigeration Outlook.
  • Support lifecycle analyses, techno-economic assessments, and climate impact studies.
Visualisation & Communication
  • Create dashboards, infographics, and interactive visualisations to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute data content to IIR publications, conference presentations, and stakeholder reports.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure accessibility and visibility of key insights.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
  • Engage with global refrigeration experts, research institutions, and policy partners to support data-sharing initiatives.
  • Represent IIR in international working groups related to data and sustainability metrics.
  • Support internal data literacy and capacity-building within the IIR scientific and technical council (STC).

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Environmental Engineering, Energy Systems, or related quantitative field.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data analytics, modeling, or scientific computing.
  • Domain expertise in refrigeration, energy, HVAC, or climate/industrial systems is a strong advantage.
  • Experience managing large datasets and working with international research or policy communities.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, etc.).
  • Familiarity with GIS, SQL, and open data platforms is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills in English (French or other languages advantageous).
