Résumé

This fresh food cold store is the first one of this type in Spain. The authors recall the recent development of refrigeration with natural gas in Spain. They summarize the characteristics of the Sabeco supermarket chain and those of the Mercazaragoza cold store: flow of goods (fruit and vegetables), room areas, technical data of the equipment and operation results. In comparison with a conventional plant, the authors estimate that the annual savings were 70% in spite of the additional maintenance cost due to the use of gas engines.
