2025 LNG Buyers Survey: How buyers are navigating complex market dynamics.

Summary

Global gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets continue to experience pronounced volatility and structural uncertainty. Following a period of sustained tightness and elevated prices earlier in the decade, LNG prices began to soften in late 2025 as additional supply started to enter the market. Despite this near-term easing, the market remains shaped by significant geopolitical risk, evolving energy transition pathways, and ongoing tension between security of supply, affordability, and emissions reduction. These dynamics are influencing LNG demand expectations, buyer behaviour, and portfolio management strategies across regions. This paper draws on findings from the 2025 LNG Buyers Survey, the sixth edition of an annual survey capturing LNG buyer perspectives. The survey includes responses from more than 40 LNG buyers across approximately 20 countries, representing established, emerging, and new market participants. Collectively, respondents account for an estimated 80–85 percent of global LNG demand. Quantitative survey results are complemented by structured interviews to support interpretation and identify the drivers underlying observed trends.
