Evolving spot and contract mix in emerging asia’s LNG demand.

Number: 20

Author(s) : MODI A.

Summary

South and Southeast Asian markets are poised to lead future liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand growth. By 2030, the region, led by India and Thailand, is projected to account for nearly 30% of global LNG demand growth. This expansion occurs against a backdrop of severe price volatility that exposed the risks of relying heavily on the spot market during the 2022 global energy crisis. In
response, emerging buyers have recalibrated procurement strategies, weighing the benefits of long-term contracts with more stable pricing against continued exposure to spot cargoes amid expectations of declining benchmark spot prices.
