THE DEVELOPMENT OF REFRIGERATING EQUIPMENT IN FRANCE WAS RATHER SLOW TILL WORLD WAR I. THE ADVANCEMENT WAS MORE RAPID BETWEEN THE TWO WORLD WARS, AND MAINLYAFTER 1945, EXCEPT, HOWEVER, IN THE CONSUMPTION OF FROZEN FOODS AND THE COOLING OF MILK ON THE FARM. THIS GAP IS NOW FILLED AND THERE REMAINS FUTURE PROSPECTS CONNECTED TO ENERGY SAVINGS, THE IMPROVEMENT OF REFRIGERATING MACHINES, THE RECOVERY OF WASTE HEAT, MAINLY BY HEAT PUMPS. J.L.
