DYNAMICALLY VARIABLE BUILDING SURFACES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WHICH WILL REACT TO SENSORS OR STIMULI, IN A SIMILAR MANNER TO THE HUMAN BODY. MOST WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON WINDOW GLASS, WHICH CAN BE MADE TO TRANSMIT, ABSORB OR REFLECT DIFFERENT ENERGY WAVEBANDS ACCORDING TO THE BUILDING NEEDS. LOCALISED CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE ENVISAGED TO LIMIT EFFECTS OF POOR MAINTENANCE OR OPERATION. OTHER SUB-SYSTEMS ARE BEING INVESTIGATED. A.R.T.
