Summary

BY STUDYING THE CAUSES, POSSIBILITIES AND FREQUENCY OF FIRES BREAKING OUT IN COLD STORES, IT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THE NUMBER OF COLD STORES AND THEIR CAPACITY, ON THE ONE HAND, AND THE NUMBER OF FIRES AND EXTENT OF DAMAGE, ON THE OTHER. FIRES ARE MAINLY DUE TO THE CARELESSNESS AND/OR ERRORS OF WORKERS, TO ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS IN POOR CONDITION AND OTHER CAUSES. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT GENERAL AND SPECIFIC CONDITIONS DUE TO THE OUTBREAK OF FIRES IN COLD STORES, ADEQUATE PREVENTIVE MEASURES HAVE BE TAKEN TO PROTECT PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT AND STORED GOODS, AND COLD STORE PERSONNEL SHOULD BE REGULARLY TRAINED FOR THIS PURPOSE.
