A fresh look at fans.
Author(s) : HYDEMAN M., STEIN J.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Fan energy is a large part of mechanical-system energy usage. Standard practices and operation can lead to designs that use as much as twice the energy of optimized designs. This can be attributed in part to the lack of analysis of fan-system performance across the full range of operation and the lack of tools to perform such analysis. This article reports on a current publicly funded research project on optimized design techniques for large variable-air-volume systems and control. Preliminary findings from one of five monitored sites are presented.
