Summary

By applying LNG cryogenic energy in a "cascade" using four different temperature ranges, large energy savings can be achieved as compared with earlier processes, and the amount of LNG required can be reduced as well. Furthermore, the application of these processes among the plants in the neighboring industrial complex can achieve savings in fuel consumption by the various companies of about 1000 kL/year. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by approximately 50 000 t-CO2/year. Worldwide demand for LNG is expected to continue to increase significantly in the future because of environmental concerns, and it is considered therefore that the development of the technologies described in the paper will contribute greatly to the promotion of energy conservation and improved operational efficiency at industrial complexes.
