CII (integral incorporated cascade) liquefaction process: 2 cascades into 1.

Author(s) : FLESCH E., RAILLARD J. C.

Summary

The cost breakdown of an LNG chain shows that the liquefaction plant facilities represent more than half of the total investment of the chain. The liquefaction unit is the preponderant part of the plant cost: 40%. In order to significantly reduce the costs of an LNG chain, the Research Division of Gaz de France, since 1993, has developed a new single cycle. This mixed refrigerant process combines the major asset of single loops, a reduced equipment list, and the excellent power consumption provided by mixed refrigerant processes with a separate pre-cooling cycle. Thereby, this simplified liquefaction process leads to a reduction higher than 20% of the construction cost of the liquefaction unit. Detailed information is developed.
