Summary

One hundred and ninety one in vitro produced day 3 bovine embryos were subjected to 12-16 minutes of pre-equilibration in 0, 1 or 2% ethylene glycol, followed by 1 minute exposure to VS14 vitrification medium containing 5.5 M ethylene glycol and 1.0 M sucrose. Embryos were vitrified in droplets or using traditional in straw system. After thawing, embryos were cultured in vitro up to Day 10 post insemination. The highest blastocyst and hatched blastocyst rates were obtained from embryos pre-equilibrated in 2% ethylene glycol and vitrified in droplets (71.2 and 50.0% respectively).
