Type of article: Article
Summary
Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation has developed a low-cost long-life Superfluid Helium Dewar (LLD) for space applications. The lineage of this dewar from other Ball-developed cooling systems and technologies flown in space will be discussed. Test results also will be given showing the performance of the dewar in a simulated space environment. This dewar is the basis for the current design of the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) Cryogenic Telescope Assembly.
