Summary

Leak detection is an increasingly regulated activity, in particular in the automobile industry and in refrigeration. Tightness of equipment containing refrigerants should be regularly checked thanks to detectors qualified for as-yet non traceable refrigerants. A project to set up a French national benchmark for leakage was set up involving the Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais, the Centre d'énergétique et des procédés de l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris and the Agence de l'environnement et de la maîtrise de l'énergie. This document presents the method and the calibration bench. The overall uncertainty of measurement of the benchmark is presented: extended uncertainty concerning flow rate is estimated as being around 7%.
