A NEW SELF-TUNING CONTROLLER FOR HVAC SYSTEMS.
Author(s) : WALLENBORG A. O.
Summary
A DISCRETE TIME PROCESS TRANSFER FUNCTION IS CALCULATED FROM THE WAVE FORM OF A PERIODIC OSCILLATION OBTAINED WITH A RELAY FEEDBACK TUNING EXPERIMENT, AND A GENERAL LINEAR DISCRETE TIME CONTROLLER IS DESIGNED USING POLE PLACEMENT BASED ON INPUT-OUTPUT MODELS. THE SAMPLING PERIOD AND THE DESIRED CLOSED-LOOP POLES ARE DETERMINED AUTOMATICALLY WITH RESPECT TO THE PROCESS DYNAMICS. THE DESIRED CLOSED-LOOP PERFORMANCE CAN ALSO BE EASILY MODIFIED BY THE OPERATOR. THE NEW ALGORITHM HAS WORKED WELL ON MANY DIFFERENT PROCESSES IN HVAC SYSTEMS. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM 2 DIFFERENT HVAC CONTROL APPLICATIONS ARE GIVEN. A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION IN COMMISSIONING TIME CAN BE ACHIEVED COMPARED WITH MANUAL TUNING.
